A tuxedo is the right call for a very formal evening wedding, a black-tie dress code, or a venue where the setting genuinely warrants it. For the vast majority of Calgary weddings, whether daytime, outdoor, hotel ballroom, or otherwise, a well-fitted suit is the more appropriate choice and photographs better across different party members. When in doubt, come in and we'll tell you honestly.
If your wedding is more than four months out, custom through Coppley is a real option. Your suit is built to your exact measurements, in the fabric you choose, and ready well before the day. Under four months, ready-to-wear selected and fitted in-store is the smarter play. We do this constantly and the results are excellent. Either way, alterations are handled in-house on our schedule, so build that time into your planning.
The groom should stand out. A slightly different suit, a different tie, or a unique pocket square is usually enough to set him apart. Groomsmen can coordinate without being identical: the same suit color in different cuts, or the same cut in a slightly different shade. Ties and pocket squares are the easiest way to pull a group together without making everyone look like a uniform. We'll help you figure this out in the fitting.
A white dress shirt with a spread collar is almost never wrong. Avoid pre-tied ties. It shows in photos. The pocket square can match the tie exactly for a formal, polished look, or complement it for something slightly more relaxed. Both are correct depending on the occasion. These are the details that separate a great look from a good one, and they're easy to get right when someone walks you through them.
